Design Engineer

We are looking for a Design Engineer to support the delivery of industrial refrigeration and heat pump projects.

This role focuses on producing compliant, efficient, and buildable designs, working across the full project lifecycle from concept through to detailed engineering outputs. You’ll collaborate closely with project, site, and commissioning teams to ensure designs meet scope, programme, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Concept & System Design

• Develop design concepts and engineered system solutions
• Carry out load calculations, pipe sizing, and equipment selection
• Specify components and materials

Engineering Outputs

• Produce P&IDs, GA drawings, schedules, and datasheets
• Maintain design documentation, registers, and revisions
• Respond to RFIs and technical queries

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure designs meet industry standards (EN378, PED, DSEAR, CDM)
• Complete design risk assessments and technical documentation
• Support safe and compliant project delivery

Coordination & Reviews

• Participate in internal and client design reviews
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and suppliers
• Resolve design clashes prior to installation

Value & Performance

• Support energy-efficient and whole-life cost designs
• Contribute to standardisation of design processes and templates

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

• HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Building Services, or Process Engineering
• Experience in a design or engineering role (any relevant sector considered)
• CAD experience (2D/3D) and familiarity with engineering calculations

Skills & Competencies

• Strong technical communication and drawing presentation
• Organised and detail-focused approach
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams
• Practical understanding of how designs translate to site
• Commitment to ongoing natural refrigeration training

Location:

Our head office in Birkenhead, with site visits as required.

Projects Engineer – Flexible Location
